So Smooth Criminal is a song about a man doing violence to a woman In this performance Sebastian essentially becomes the ‘smooth criminal’ himself while Santana becomes Annie However instead of allowing the smooth criminal to dominate her this Annie fights back She decries him and matches him This is an empowerment song in Naya and Santana’s hands This is about a woman who won’t allow a predatory man to dominate her As an aside: the Spanish name Santana translates to Saint Anne in English So Santana is literally Annie The more you know Fuck yeah Santana!
